Embracing What’s to Come – Advice to Graduates

“Do not worry too much about your lawn. You will soon find, if you haven’t already, that almost every adult American devotes tremendous time and money to the maintenance of an invasive plant species called turf grass that we can’t eat. I encourage you to choose better obsessions.” – John Green

Graduates, you are on the cusp of a new beginning. While exhilarating, it’s also an overwhelming time. You have to wrap up the semester while preparing for graduation and hunting for your dream post-college career, all amid a global pandemic. You’ve got a lot on your plate, and our team here at Luna Brand Management wants to remind you of one thing. Choose smart obsessions. Don’t fret too much on the things that are out of your control or won’t benefit you in the long term. Instead, devote your energy to tomorrow. What will bring you joy in 24 hours? The next few weeks are going to be filled with people throwing advice your way. Most of which will be to find a job NOW. To figure out the entirety of your life NOW. In today’s blog, we’re going to shift the narrative slightly with the following three pieces of advice.

Embrace new beginnings

Endings are hard. Wrapping up a chapter of your life that laid the foundation for your future success is difficult. However, embracing a new beginning, that’s the real challenge. You have a plethora of opportunities waiting for you to reach out and grab. But, with so many options, you’re left standing still asking, “Which do I choose.” Our advice is to challenge yourself and welcome fresh possibilities. When first tackling the job market, you’re likely to stick to your field of study. However, we urge you to venture out of your comfort zone and explore positions that will push you to continue learning!

Accept the journey ahead and document it

It’s impossible to know what tomorrow will bring. While society may be telling you what path to take, the choice is entirely up to you. Venture out! Run your own race or, better yet, jog, walk, or simply stroll. You are in control of your future and the speed at which you discover your “why.” While your friends may be landing their dream positions immediately, it may take you a hot minute to figure out what you want to achieve professionally, and that is OKAY

As a brand management company, we’re fans of documenting our journey, and we encourage you to do the same! Start a TikTok account and keep track of the bumps you encounter as you walk your path to success. Although it may look different from your peers, it is no less worthy of acceptance!

Discover what makes you happy

No matter how many people tell you that you’re now in the “real world” and that you are a full-fledged adult, you are still young!

Discovering what makes you truly happy is a part of your journey. So, don’t rush it!

Try new experiences; tackle a summer internship that interests you even though it relates in no way to your degree; send your resume to a company located somewhere you’ve never been. Put yourself out there and test the waters! Only then will you discover what makes you happy and the best industry for your skill sets.

As we’ve said, new beginnings are hard. But, once you’ve taken that first step, the rest is an exciting adventure. Our Luna Brand Management team consists of many individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, skills, education, and personalities. Together, we make the perfect team. So, the best advice we can give you graduates is that your future is in your hands. Don’t allow anyone to stray you from your path. Go at your own speed, challenge yourself daily, and most importantly, be happy!

If entering the world of brand management piques your interest, we encourage you to apply to our Summer Social Media Intern position. We’re excited about where our path will lead us this quarter; maybe it’ll cross yours!
